How BioUVision Works

Natural fluorophores—such as flavins and porphyrins—within the S‑layer proteins of bacterial cell walls absorb UV‑A photons, causing electron excitation and subsequent emission of visible light (fluorescence). In other words, when these molecules are irradiated with specific UV wavelengths, electrons transition from the ground state to an excited state and, upon returning to the ground state, emit visible fluorescence that can be seen by the naked eye.
BioUVision employs pulsed multi-wavelength UV-A technology, utilizing three frequency-tunable UV-LED arrays that alternate in sequence to precisely excite natural fluorophores, generating visible fluorescence signals from biofilm residues that can be directly observed by the naked eye.

Verifies Proper Lamp Emission
Large Spot Visible Under Low Light, Small Spot Visible Under Ambient Light

Red-Orange Fluorescence

Indole produced by bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus), commonly found in medical and food processing environments

Yellow-Green Fluorescence

Flavin-containing bacteria (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa), frequently found in water-associated biofilms

Green Fluorescence

Indicates high bacterial proliferation, typical of mature biofilms

Blue or Light Blue-White Fluorescence

Represents early-stage biofilm or thin bacterial layers; may also indicate chemical residues or water stains, often seen on stainless steel surfaces

Purple-Pink Fluorescence

Mixed bacterial colonies or fungal contamination, possibly indicating complex or mature biofilms

Integrates with ATP Testing
Enables Comprehensive Contamination Risk Control

Facilitates Easy Testing and Accurate Interpretation

Although ATP testing is widely used, it has several limitations, including statistical uncertainty, random sampling, high consumable costs, and risks of false positives or negatives.

BioUVision combined with ATP testing
Provides a Complete Solution for Environmental Sanitation

BioUVision’s advanced UV technology complements ATP testing by overcoming random sampling limitations. With no need for consumables, it delivers a comprehensive solution while enhancing inspection accuracy.
